Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What should I expect for my first class?

Please arrive 30 minutes early to your first class. When you arrive for your class we will be expecting you, so just check in with us at reception. We will take you through a short tutorial so you feel comfortable with our boxing technique and class format.

We will show you how to put on your wraps if you need help with these. By the time class starts you’ll be ready to unleash your inner warrior!

We have gloves and wraps available for purchase here. We’ll always wrap your hands up for you as long as you check in with us at least 15 minutes before class time. Check out our Instagram where we have videos demonstrating how to wrap as well.

What if I need to cancel a class?

No problem! You may cancel a class in The Box Office up to 12 hours before with no penalty. You can do so on our ‘Book a Class’ page. For any private or semi-private training sessions, there is a 24 hour cancellation policy.

What If I have an injury? Or I’m pregnant?

If you have a previous injury or are pregnant, we ask that you consult your doctor before starting any exercise program. Assuming you get the all clear to workout with us, we will work with you to modify any drills or exercises so you can still get an awesome workout that’s a blast and fulfilling.

Can I bring my kids or dog etc. to the gym while I work out?

As much as we do like appreciate your families and family pets, unfortunately we’re not able to allow parents to leave their children or animals unattended in or outside the gym during a workout.

What should I wear/bring to class?

Exercise clothes and shoes you’re comfortable moving around in. You’ll want to make sure to drink plenty of water – you can either bring your own, or you buy drinks from our fridge. We recommend that you leave valuables at home, but we do have cubby holes in the Cross-Box area.

If you don’t have your own gloves and wraps before you start, don’t worry – we stock The Box Office branded gloves and wraps, which are available for purchase.

Is there a shower at The Box Office?

No sorry, we do not have shower facilities. We have tried to structure our classes over early morning and later afternoon times to allow you to shower at home or work.

Are there any age limits?

Our classes are open to people aged 16+. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must be physically present with you to sign up you as a member before your first class, no exceptions. If you sign up online, your parent or legal guardian must come to your first class with you.

Will I really learn how to box?

We train you with the same techniques we would train a fighter – knowing that (probably) this isn’t your goal or objective. You will learn correct and true boxing form and technique without the threat of actually ever having to fight in a ring.

Doesn’t boxing give you bulky musles?

That’s a common myth, but it’s far from the truth! Boxing is the ultimate leaning full-body workout. You burn 500+ calories per class in our fun cardio sessions. Our workouts are designed to tone your core while sculpting long, lean muscles.

What If I’ve never boxed before?

All of our classes are designed to accommodate people of all levels, including beginners! When you check in early for your first class, we’ll wrap your hands and give you a breakdown of boxing basics so you know what to expect. Most newcomers to our studio are also brand new to boxing.

What If I’m running late to class?

Give us a call on 027 531 0115 and we’ll hold your spot for up to 5 minutes into class time. If you’re not here at the start of class time and we don’t know that you’re on your way, your spot may be given away to a standby student. If it’s your first time, we’ll do our best to accommodate you as long as you arrive 10 minutes before class time.

If I haven’t exercised in a while, am I going to be able to keep up?

Yes! We’re humbled that The Box Office is the first step to hitting your fitness goals. We recognise that everyone has different capabilities and levels, so our class structure caters for this. Plus we’re always here to encourage you to do your best.

Will I ever have to fight an opponent?

We train you with the same techniques we would train a fighter – knowing that (probably) this isn’t your goal or objective. You will learn correct and true boxing form and technique without the threat of actually ever having to fight in a ring.
